From the desk of Kelly:
Once again, I found myself with a bevy of prospective candidates for this week’s “Liberal Loser.” There was the Hollywood hippie crowd calling for a dismantling of our nuclear weapons program (let me know when Iran jumps on board with that one, guys), the West Virginia county trying to give jail time to a past “Conservative Champion,” Jared Marcum, and, of course, at least one member of the Obama administration always seems to find themselves in the running. But, this week, rapper Lil Wayne takes the cake. While shooting a music video in New Orleans last weekend (for a song entitled “God Bless Amerika,” no less) Weezy is seen rapping in front of an American flag. The flag falls to the ground and Wayne can be seen stomping on the flag. As if it could get any worse, the lyrics to the song by this apparent Reverend Wright in training say it all: “”My country ’tis of thee / Sweet land of kill ‘em all and let ‘em die / God bless Amerika / This ole’ godless Amerika.” The Internet was in quite the tizzy after this video leaked, so obviously Lil Wayne took to Twitter in an attempt to defend himself by tweeting, “I didn’t step on the flag on purpose! It’s a scene in a video where the flag drops behind me and after it drop it’s just there as I perform.” Right. And those lyrics must be talking about the other United States of America. Nothing gets me riled up like seeing someone disrespect our country. If you don’t like America, then please, let me show you the way out. Countless brave men and women have sacrificed their lives to preserve the heritage and freedom that has made this country so great. It’s one thing to disagree on policies and politics, and everyone deserves the respect of their right to free speech. But outwardly disrespecting our country is where I draw the line. While it’s within his right to say and express those things, it doesn’t mean I have to like them, much less support any endeavors he chooses to support. Congrats, Lil Wayne, you are ironically dissing the very country that grants you the freedom to say such things in the first place.
